New shop products!

My shop has been going for just 2 months and I feel so lucky to have had the response that I have done. It has been great fun, exhausting and a huge learning curve. My family has loved it as they are constant taste testers and I am even on first name terms with the ladies in our village post office. It is so fulfilling when people say they love the products and there really has been no better feeling that having customers return time and time again. It is really hard starting a new business and trying to find the right market.

Trying to find new customers can feel a little like trying to find a four-leaf clover (I am still yet to ever find one).  Although I have confidence in my products I am still nervous when I see emails about them drop in to my inbox or on social media. The fear that perhaps someone won’t have liked them, or will have something critical to say. But, I am completely open to the fact that you can’t please everyone and I am fully prepared that there will be negative comments along the way.

I have, this last week, had my kitchen checked by a food hygiene officer and I was very happy to receive a rating of 5. I have also completed my allergen training and have just signed up to start a diploma to become a nutritional therapist. I figure the more I can learn, the better my products can be and the more informed my advice. It is very likely that it will take me about a decade to train, given my windows of work time are for one hour (nap time) in the afternoon and then the time I have once she’s in bed- time which I usually find myself blending balls!!

I finally have a printer! So, all my labels are now legible! No longer written by my aching hand. It has literally cut my time in half which is such a welcome relief, especially with a toddler running round.

A couple of weeks ago I secured my first client so I am now going to be selling my energy balls in a local Vegan run gym in Cheltenham. The balls will be sold in packs of 3. I will let you know if they are a success or not!

So, here are some new products that I have recently added.

Coconut and vanilla cheesecake bites

I think these may have been what won me my 5 rating from the food and hygiene officer (!). He loved them so much that I made him up a little bag to take home to share with his wife, but I am almost certain that he would have eaten them the second he got in the car.

A hint of vanilla mixed with a creamy coconut these are chewy and made with the simplest of ingredients.

Chocolate “no oat” porridge

(60g, 2 x 30g servings per package )

For years and years I was told that eating a bowl of porridge every morning was the way to keep my blood sugars stable. Slow releasing carbohydrate, low-fat, high fibre….all the so-called “good stuff”. How wrong the information given to me was. I constantly had high blood sugar, required a colossal amount of insulin and that was even before my day had properly began.

It was only more recently that I realised that I could still enjoy porridge but without the negative effect it had on my sugar levels or need for inordinate amounts of insulin by creating my own.

This sachet contains 4 ingredients: golden linseed, coconut butter, cacao, coconut sugar.

There is 1 tsp coconut sugar per sachet (1/2 tsp per serving- 4g carbs).

In terms of other additions I personally love adding a square of 90% chocolate with some raspberries and blueberries and a sprinkle of cacao nibs. It tastes so indulgent and yet doesn’t take your blood sugar on a rollercoaster ride.

The texture of the porridge is very similar to that of Ready Brek and chia. It is creamy but with a little spring to it. I cook mine in either almond milk (which I make myself- recipe here) or organic whole milk.

Please note that this product is made in a kitchen that uses NUTS, PEANUTS and SESAME

Cooking instructions:

Two options;

  1. Heat 125ml milk gently in a pan (or in the Microwave). Place 30g porridge in to a bowl and add the milk over the top. Stir and then allow to stand for 1 minute until thick and creamy. You could of course just have it with cold milk. If it thickens too much then add a little more milk and stir well.
  2. Alternatively, place 30g porridge in to a pan over high heat with 125 ml milk (of choice). Cook slowly over LOW heat until thickening. As soon as it begins to thicken, remove & serve. Add more milk if needed.

All orders will be shipped first class delivery within 3 working days. Please note orders will not be despatched at weekends.

Postage: one flat fee of £3.50 first class delivery.

As always, thank you for reading and for all your support!
